British heavyweight ace Joe Joyce is set to take on German Christian Hammer this weekend after his clash with former WBO champion Joseph Parker was put on hold. ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce is unbeaten in his 13 professional fights so far and has been impressive against Carlos Takam and Daniel Dubois in his last two outings. The 36-year-old was expected to take a step up and face experienced Kiwi Parker but that fight will now have to wait. Instead, Joyce will meet former Tyson Fury victim Hammer in London. Joyce is eager to secure a title fight in the near future and will want to put on an impressive display in the capital.
Date and start time
The 12-round heavyweight clash is set to be held on Saturday, July 2 and is taking place at Wembley Arena in London.
The card will get going at 7pm with Joyce vs Hammer expected from 10pm on the night.
What’s been said?
Joe Joyce: “I’ve known about Christian Hammer for a while now. “He has fought everybody, it is going to be a good fight, he comes forward and it will be exciting. It is one to get me ready for the next fights coming up. I’ve been out of the ring for a whole year now so it will be good to dust off the gloves and shake off the cobwebsh. It is going to be a big year, this year and next, with some great fights and I just need to be in the right place.”
Prediction
Joyce will want to get Hammer out of the way and look to force a meeting with the winner of the Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk rematch, and he shouldn’t have too many issues here. The Londoner can break Hammer down for a stoppage or retirement win around the halfway mark.
